Good to know: Ti Cafew does not sell coffee machines. This guide is independent: it helps you choose your machine, then the 100% arabica coffee to go with it, whole bean or ground to suit your brewer.
The 30-second answer
- ☕ Small budget, big flavour: the moka pot is still the queen of Moroccan kitchens, and it makes excellent coffee.
- 🔥 For real espresso: a portafilter espresso machine or a bean-to-cup machine, with freshly ground coffee.
- 💊 Pods and capsules: convenient, but you are limited to the brand's capsules, and the coffee was ground a long time ago.
- 🎯 The right coffee matters as much as the machine: pick the right grind, or buy whole beans if you have a grinder.

In Morocco today, appliance shelves carry everything: moka pots, capsule machines, DeLonghi, Krups or Philips espresso machines, bean-to-cup machines… Before comparing prices, ask yourself a simple question: what kind of coffee do you want to drink, and how many cups a day? The right machine follows from that.
The 6 main types of coffee machine
1. The moka pot (stovetop espresso maker)
The most common brewer in Moroccan homes. It works on a gas flame or a hob, with no dedicated power supply. It makes a strong, full-bodied, aromatic coffee, halfway between espresso and filter. Inexpensive and practically indestructible if you look after it. Our guide: Moka pot: how to make great coffee.
2. The French press (cafetière)
The coffee steeps for a few minutes in hot water, then you press down the filter. The result: a rounded cup, rich in aroma, ideal for fruity African coffees.
3. The electric drip coffee maker
Practical for several cups at once, for the family in the morning or at the office. The coffee is lighter and longer. Choose a model with a thermal carafe so the coffee doesn't "stew" on the hot plate.
4. The portafilter espresso machine
The café machine in a home version: you dose, tamp and pull the shot yourself. It makes the best espresso, with real crema, as long as you use freshly ground, very fine coffee. It takes a little practice.
5. The bean-to-cup machine (with built-in grinder)
It grinds the beans for each cup and makes espresso at the press of a button, often with a steam wand or milk system for cappuccino. It is the most convenient option for fresh coffee every day, but also the most expensive to buy. To set it up properly: Which coffee for a bean-to-cup machine?
6. The capsule machine
Fast, clean, no adjustments needed. On the other hand, your choice is limited to compatible capsules, and the price per kilo of capsule coffee is much higher than that of whole bean or ground coffee.

Quick comparison
| Machine | Purchase budget | Coffee style | Grind to use |
|---|---|---|---|
| Moka pot | Low | Strong, full-bodied | Medium-fine ("Ground for Moka Pot") |
| French press | Low | Rounded, aromatic | Coarse ("Ground for French Press") |
| Electric drip | Low to medium | Light, long | Medium ("Ground for Filter") |
| Portafilter espresso | Medium to high | Espresso with crema | Fine ("Ground for Espresso Machine") |
| Bean-to-cup | High | Espresso, lattes | Whole beans |
| Capsules | Low to medium (expensive capsules) | Quick espresso | Capsules only |
Which machine for your needs?
- 1 to 2 strong coffees a day, small budget: a good-quality moka pot (stainless steel if you cook on induction).
- Milky coffee and cappuccino at home: a moka pot with a milk frother, or a portafilter espresso machine with a steam wand. Our recipes: Café crème, latte, cappuccino: homemade recipes.
- Big family, several cups in the morning: a drip coffee maker with a thermal carafe.
- Espresso lover who wants the best without the effort: a bean-to-cup machine.
- Fan of fruity, floral coffees: a French press or a filter, which respect delicate aromas better.
Capsules: the real cost
A capsule generally contains 5 to 6 g of coffee. Per kilo, capsule coffee often costs several times the price of a good whole bean specialty coffee. And that coffee was ground long before you drink it. If you drink several coffees a day, a moka pot or a bean-to-cup machine quickly becomes cheaper, with fresher coffee.
Note: a capsule machine does not take regular ground coffee. If you want to enjoy single-origin coffees, choose another machine or a compatible reusable capsule.
Which coffee for which machine?
All our coffees are 100% arabica, medium roast, and available as whole beans or ground for every type of brewer. A few pointers:
- Moka pot and espresso: rounded, chocolatey coffees such as Mexico Altura ORGANIC or Guatemala SHB ORGANIC, or bolder ones such as Sumatra Gayo Mountain ORGANIC.
- French press and filter: fragrant African coffees, such as Ethiopia Moka Sidamo ORGANIC or Kenya AA.
- Bean-to-cup: a balanced coffee everyone enjoys, such as our organic blend.

THE ALL-ROUNDER
Natural Organic Blend
Four organic arabicas brought together for a balanced cup: body, chocolate notes and a fruity touch. It works in every machine, from the moka pot to the bean-to-cup, and pairs beautifully with milk.
Cleaning and descaling
A poorly maintained machine makes bitter coffee, however good the beans. If your water is hard, descale electric machines regularly following the manufacturer's instructions. Rinse the portafilter and steam wand after each use. For a moka pot, a simple rinse with hot water is enough, no soap.
